About us

On May 18, 2020 my family’s life changed. Bennett was admitted to the hospital because he was in diabetic keto acidosis (DKA). This is when we learned that he is a Type 1 diabetic. In the 3 days we were at the hospital we were given an overwhelming amount of information on how we now needed to ensure Bennett lived a healthy life. One of the things I learned was what his blood sugar numbers mean. One of the scariest things about blood sugar is a low blood sugar. When the blood sugar hits 70 or lower there is an immediate need for carbs/sugar. To help with this many people carry an emergency bag with some juice or candy for immediate use. When we came home I came up with a bag for Bennett. Our visiting nurse at the time had mentioned that the kit I had put together was great for that. She also mentioned that some families have to choose between creating a kit or feeding the rest of their family. That is where the idea came from to create these kits to donate to pediatric units at hospitals.
